Enterprise Firmware Upgrade

When you purchased the Business Class upgrade for your router, you should have received an email from Netopia with a feature key code. Once this key has been installed, you will then be able to upgrade the router to the 8.x business class firmware.

Click Here! to purchase the Enterprise business class upgrade if you haven't already done so.

Before starting this process, you should have all circuit / line information and any ISP User Names & Passwords assembled and readily available. Once the router firmware has upgraded to the 8.x code, it will be reset to a factory default setting with 192.168.1.1 as the LAN IP address and DHCP will be enabled.

Please Note: Your router must be running firmware 7.3.1 R0 to make this upgrade. If the router is running a previous version of 7.x code, you need to first upgrade the router firmware.

Please Note: The ENT firmware upgrade will NOT work on a router running any firmware prior to the 7.x platform. Those gateways cannot install the necessary 7.x firmware to accept the Enterprise key.

At this time you should also download the Enterprise firmware to a temp file in your computer (c:\temp for example.) Click Here! to download the 8.x code firmware. The following instructions will instruct you on the installation of this file.

Enterprise Key Installation - Step I (Firmware 7.3.1)

  1. Browse into the Netopia and put the router into Expert Mode.
  2. At the Home page, click on the Install link.
  3. Click on Install Key.
  4. In the Upgrade Key field enter the key code exactly as it was given. This entry is case sensitive.
  5. Click on the Install Key button.
  6. After a few seconds, you should get a prompt that the file was successfully installed.
  7. Restart the Netopia.

Enterprise Firmware Upgrade - Step II

  1. After the reboot, confirm that the router is in Expert Mode.
  2. At the router Home page, click on the Install link.
  3. Click on Install Software.
  4. Click on the Browse... button and select the file you have saved to a temporary directory.
  5. Click on the Install Software button.
  6. The software download will take approximately 2 minutes. Do not change menu screens during the upgrade.
  7. Once completed, you will get a prompt that the software was successfully upgraded.
  8. Restart the Netopia.

After the router has been upgraded, you will no longer have the web GUI menus; you will now navigate the menus through a regular telnet session. Select your model router from the list of available options. This will bring up a page with configuration technotes and latest firmware releases for your equipment.
