Extension/CDEV Conflict

TPM_042

Timbuktu Pro won't load on startup or is not working properly.

Problem:

Either Timbuktu Pro or the Macintosh on which it is installed are not functioning properly, when Timbuktu Pro is loaded.

Situation:

There may be an extension or control panel that is conflicting with the Timbuktu Pro Extension.

Solution:

To resolve this problem and isolate which file is causing the conflict, you will
need to temporarily configure you system so that only the standard system
software files and Timbuktu Pro load.

If you have an extension manager:

Using the extension manager Control Panel (such as one that comes with
System 9.0), select the "Mac OS 9.0 Base".  Click on Duplicate Set and rename the set and click 'OK'.   Now scroll down the list of extensions and add the Timbuktu Extension to the list of items to load. Then Restart your system.

If you don't have an extension manager:

You will need to manually move any non-standard extensions and control
panels not installed by default with the system software (i.e. Non-Apple
software), except for the Timbuktu Extension, from the System:Extensions folder to a temporary folder located outside of the System Folder. Then Restart.

After restarting, if the procedure resolves the conflict:

This means an Extension or Control Panel was conflicting with Timbuktu Pro or another Extension/Control Panel. To find out the conflicting software, add one of the removed control panels or extensions back to its original location and restart.  You may want to add extensions back in groups.  Keep adding extensions until the    problem reappears. Through a process of elimination, you can determine which extension is the culprit.  Contact Netopia or the manufacturer of the other software for information on a possible work around.

After restarting, if the procedure does not resolve the conflict:

Follow instructions on clean installation provided in technote "TPM_035 Clean Installation." If Timbuktu still does not run, then your system software may be corrupted.  If that's the case, you will need to perform a clean install of your system software. If none of the above works, contact Netopia for further troubleshooting steps.

Summary:

In some cases there can be conflicts with other extensions or control panels that may prevent Timbuktu from loading properly.  Limiting the set of extensions and control panels that the system starts up with can help determine which extensions and/or control panels are causing the conflict.
